macOS, Linux, and SADP: Options When Windows Is Not Available
SADP targets Windows in most field guides; understand web-first provisioning, dual-boot kits, and vendor portals.
Many integrators carry a small Windows NUC or tablet specifically because vendor utilities target that platform first. If you only have macOS or Linux, check whether Hikvision offers a supported package for your OS version today—policies change.
Alternatives
Sometimes DHCP reservation + default hostname patterns, physical reset plus documented defaults, or a mobile commissioning app (where officially supported) fills the gap. Never rely on unverified third-party “ports” of SADP.
Documentation
Record the exact commissioning OS build in your runbook so the next tech matches it.
