Retiring Default Passwords Immediately After SADP Activation

Credential hygiene: vault storage, rotation cadence, and why “admin123” survives too many punch lists.

Activation is not the finish line. Default credentials appear in every attacker dictionary. The moment a device joins a routable network, automate a change to a unique secret stored in your password manager or PAM tool.

Process

  1. Generate a strong random password per device or per site policy.
  2. Store it with metadata (serial, location, owner).
  3. Validate login via web UI before leaving site.

Audits

Internal red teams love CCTV VLANs—treat them as sensitive, not “just cameras.”
