Retiring Default Passwords Immediately After SADP Activation
Credential hygiene: vault storage, rotation cadence, and why “admin123” survives too many punch lists.
Activation is not the finish line. Default credentials appear in every attacker dictionary. The moment a device joins a routable network, automate a change to a unique secret stored in your password manager or PAM tool.
Process
- Generate a strong random password per device or per site policy.
- Store it with metadata (serial, location, owner).
- Validate login via web UI before leaving site.
Audits
Internal red teams love CCTV VLANs—treat them as sensitive, not “just cameras.”
