sadp basics
When to Use SADP vs the Camera Web Interface
Split responsibilities: discovery and bulk network edits in SADP; image tuning, codecs, and smart events in the browser or VMS.
Think of SADP as the wrench for “where is this thing on the wire?” and the web UI as the paintbrush for imaging policy. SADP shines during provisioning: discovery, activation, IP edits, and quick inventory exports. Once the device answers at a stable IP, most teams configure streams, overlays, smart events, and ONVIF profiles in the browser or through a VMS template.
Exceptions
Some maintenance tasks may still bounce you back to SADP if the web UI is unreachable due to IP misconfiguration. Keep the utility installed on at least one trusted staging laptop per region.
Security posture
Lock down who may run SADP on production VLANs. The same discovery power that helps you helps an intruder mapping assets—pair tool access with switch port security and monitoring.
