Dual-NIC PCs: pick the right SADP interface
When one NIC hits the internet and another hits the camera LAN, route metrics and VPNs can steal discovery traffic.
Field laptops often have Wi-Fi for email plus Ethernet for a camera PoE switch. If Windows prefers the Wi-Fi default route, some utilities still discover locally—but VPN clients may force all packets into a tunnel, hiding private subnets.
Practical approach
Disconnect from consumer VPNs during provisioning, set wired higher priority, or use route print / ipconfig to confirm interface order. Document the working setup for teammates.
Virtual machines
Bridged vs NAT modes change everything. Bridged usually matches physical expectations; NAT breaks broadcast discovery.
